Printing Design Rates for PrintDirectforLess.com

Design Rates are an option on our website as a starting point to having a PDFL Graphics Artist create a design that works for you.
We expect some up front ideas and verbiage (Word Document) to come from the client in an electronic format so we can begin to prepare some designs for you. If you have specific pictures or artwork (logos) that need to be incorporated into the design, we would first need those items for the design process to begin. Having us design your project should save you time and money in the end, and help you get straight to the end product of producing your printed material quicker than alternative methods.
If you desire a design service to be performed by a PDFL graphic artist, please order that "Design Rate" item when going through the order entry process while placing your order. Also please note that "Design Rate" charges are non-refundable, should you choose not to accept a design that our artists' develop. Everyone imagines how products should look and, should you decide to take your design project elsewhere and submit that art after we have already designed some layouts for you, that is your choice.
Once we fully understand what you want us to do, and you have given us all the information we need to begin designing your creation, we will give you an estimate on how long, in terms of hours, it will take to finish your project before we can use it in print production. EXAMPLE: If you ask us to design a postcard, and the initial ordering cost is $100, and we give you a 3 hour estimate at $50 per hour, an additional $50 will be billed to your credit card, once you approve this cost. As you can see below, our Layout & Design rates are $50.00 per hour.
LAYOUT & DESIGN - $50.00 per hour
DESIGN PROOFING AND CLIENT RESPONSIBILITY If PrintDirectforLess.com is hired to do design work for you, it is the clients complete responsibility to make sure the design is done exactly to the specs the client desires, before approving the final proof used to set a job into print production. On orders placed through our website, once a client approves their on-line PDF proof, that relieves PrintDirectforLess.com from any and all responsibility for any aspect of the design such as: mis-spellings (Typos), column spacing, etc. If the client is ordering a custom quoted order (one not available on our website), and a physical client signature is required to approve a proof before releasing an order into print production, that client signature completely releases PrintDirectforLess.com from any liability on work PrintDirectforLess.com did in design.
It is ultimately the clients responsibility to proofread and check that all design elements are done to their EXACT satisfaction, before approving any type of proof that finally releases an order into FINAL PRINT PRODUCTION. If a client finds an error in their order after approving their proof, but before the order goes onto a printing press for completion, the costs to make the change will vary depending on the nature of the change, and how far along into production the job has gone. Once PDFL makes that cost assessment, the client will be notified, and it will ultimately be the clients responsibility to post a message in the client account, under that specific ORDER NUMBER, as to what action PDFL is to take regarding this matter. Nothing will be done until you post a message to your account and that specific ORDER NUMBER.
Finding mistakes after a proof has been accepted and a print order is received is not grounds for clients to request a reprint or a refund. However, if this does occur, and a client requires a job to be reprinted, PrintDirctforLess.com will reduce the rerun or new order by up to as much as 20% off the listed website prices. The amount discounted from 1% to 20% will solely depend on whether or not any discounts were offered at the time of the first order, and if the client is a discounted customer or not.

We charge a flat rate for all creative services provided of $50.00 per hour and work in 15 minute increments, with a one half hour (1/2) minimum charge of $25.00. For example: If your job takes us 1 hour and 15 minutes to complete, you will be billed $62.50.
Whether it is simple layout or intensive photo color corrections, we charge the same rate. Since our internal graphic artist team works very closely with our color management team and pressroom, you can be assured we will create your job to maximize our color management technology. We will also work with your designers or agency to make sure they are creating your printed material in the correct fashion for our production process. Feel free to have someone call us at 1-800-301-8870 x205 if they should have any questions or concerns about your job or how to properly submit preflighted electronic files to our facility.
SCANNING - $10 each
If you should need us to scan artwork or photos for your print projects, we will gladly provide that service for you. We can either place the scanned image for you or transmit the file to you through the Internet so you can place the image and then send us the final project when placing your order. We charge the same low rate of $10 each for Color or Black & White scans. If you desire a photo to be duotone, that type of service falls under the Layout & Design section at $50 per hour.
DIGITAL COLOR PROOFING - $40 each
We only produce Digital Color Proofs. These proofs will very closely resemble the final printed piece. If you require a Digital Color Proof, this will obviously delay the turnaround of your job by several days. All shipping costs incurred to deliver Digital Color Proofs will be the responsibility of the customer. The $40 price includes anything you can get on a 19"x25" sheet. If your job requires us to use more than one (1) 19"x25 sheet, you will be charged $40 for each additional sheet needed to finish your job. For example: If you order a 16-page 8.5"x11" finished size catalog, that would take four (4) 19"x25" sheets to make your color proofs, totaling $160.00. If you order an 8.5"x11" 2 sided flyer the cost would be $20 ($10 per side). $10 is the minimum charge.
You can choose to have Digital Color Proofs sent to you, by choosing a Manual Proof in the order entry process, instead of the FREE on-line PDF proof. Your cost will automatically be calculated at $10 per side of an 8.5"x11", depending on the product you are ordering. The minimum cost is $10 for any proof per side. Ordering Digital Color Proofs will be sent via UPS Next day Air, and the cost will be billed to your credit card. Once we hear back that you have accepted the proof, we will begin to process your order in our production schedule, as we would have done had you sent us your electronic files over the internet while placing your order.
